The curious incident of Joe’s bag in LA

Our trip has started off well, with a couple of hiccups to keep us on our toes.

The flight was uneventful – a half empty plane from Melbourne to Sydney and a spare seat in our row from Sydney to LA meant a little more space to stretch.

Once cleared through security at LAX, some worries started when Joe's bag was not to be seen on the baggage carousel, BUT there was another one there, exactly the same. Sure enough, someone else had taken Joe's by mistake and although customer service was very helpful, the guy had already cleared Customs. So we filed a report and were told to get back to LAX early the next morning before our flight to DC to see if it had been returned. The prospect of a couple of days without bag was not ideal! So we got through arrivals and organized a shared shuttle to our hostel, and then we both noticed the bags of the couple sitting near us – and there it was! We had coincidentally found the couple that had taken his bag. It was a huge relief for us, and still can't quite believe how lucky we were.

LA was good – we didn't really have time to venture far. We stayed in Hollywood so had a wander around Hollywood and Sunset Blvds, and then joined a hike from our hostel to Runyon Canyon at sunset for a great view over the city.

So now we're in DC – got in last night and had a quick wander around. Feels a bit surreal to see all the landmarks we know so well. Looking forward to getting into some sightseeing today!

Still a bit of jetlag, but at least we have a few days in DC to get settled a bit more.

  1. Hello to you both!
My word, you were soooo lucky re Joe's bag - glad it worked out so well for you. It wouldn't have been a good start to your travels for a bag to go missing first stop! You were fortunate having the spare seat on the flight over - that bit of extra space does make a difference to your comfort, doesn't it?
I'm sure you'll enjoy sight-seeing around Washington ... you'll think you are on the set of "West Wing"!!!
    Enjoy and continued safe travels
    Love from 'Marmie' xoxoxo
